GlobalWafers Excels in Green Manufacturing, Winning the National
Enterprise Environmental Protection Award for Four Consecutive Years

GlobalWafers has made significant progress in green manufacturing, with its commitment to sustainability being highly recognized. For four consecutive years, the Company has been awarded the Bronze Award in the National Enterprise Environmental Protection Award by the Executive Yuan, honoring its relentless efforts towards environmental sustainability.

Sponsored by the Environmental Protection Administration of the Executive Yuan, the National Enterprise Environmental Protection Award represents the highest honor for companies in Taiwan that promote environmental protection. The award recognizes corporates with outstanding achievements in environmental sustainability, social responsibility, and corporate governance through a rigorous review process. This year, GlobalWafers received the Bronze Award, highlighting its great dedication to environmental policy and management, energy and resource conservation, pollution prevention and reduction, and active environmental engagement.

The contribution of GlobalWafers’ Zhunan Plant in 2023 towards conserving energy resources mainly focused on replacing high-energy-consuming equipment to improve energy efficiency. During the year, a total of 18 energy-saving action plans were implemented, including the introduction of total energy-saving thermal field, adjusting the water supply temperature for the cooling system in the crystal growth process, and adding variable frequency control to air conditioning chillers, etc. These measures effectively reduced electricity consumption during production, saving a total of 3.47 million kWh, with a 5% decrease in the total electricity consumption compared to the previous year. This is equivalent to reducing 1,712 tons of CO2 emissions (approximately the amount absorbed by four Taipei Daan Forest Parks in a year).

In terms of water resources, by introducing the new process water recycling system for wastewater treatment and reuse, the total amount of recycled water from the production process increased by 56% compared to the previous year. In 2023, GlobalWafers’ Zhunan Plant recycled 136,856 tons of water, equivalent to the annual water consumption of 326 average households of four people. Looking ahead, GlobalWafers will continue to uphold “responsible growth” as its operational guideline, adhering to the concept of sustainable development, continuously improving energy-saving and carbon-reduction technologies, and taking concrete actions to fulfill corporate social responsibility, striving to create a cleaner planet for future generations.
