GlobalWafers scored an A- for its leadership in environmental transparency and performance on “Water Security” and obtained a B score on “Climate Change” in the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) 2024 assessment. This recognition underscores the company’s commitment to environmental sustainability, actively integrating green development into its manufacturing processes, renewable energy usage, and operational strategies.
As the world’s third-largest semiconductor wafer manufacturer, GlobalWafers recognizes the critical importance of water resources in the semiconductor industry. The company actively promotes water recycling and reuse, investing in wastewater treatment and recovery systems to ensure its water management aligns with international standards. By implementing rigorous water risk assessments and management strategies, GlobalWafers minimizes environmental impact and is committed to building a sustainable supply chain. The water resource recovery rate for the Taiwan sites in 2024 has reached 59.31%.
To effectively manage climate-related risks and opportunities impacting GlobalWafers and to support the transition to net zero through concrete actions, the company joined the RE100 initiative in 2022. By improving energy efficiency, transitioning to low-carbon technologies (such as implementing energy-saving action plans for facility and process optimization), and adopting strategies such as signing Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), purchasing Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs), and engaging with upstream value chains to reduce carbon emissions, GlobalWafers is gradually achieving the phased targets outlined in its climate roadmap. The goal is to realize the long-term objective of 100% renewable energy usage across the entire group by 2050, thereby reducing carbon emissions generated during the power generation process and contributing to carbon reduction targets. In addition to our Danish site becoming the world’s first semiconductor crystal manufacturing facility to utilize its own installed 100% green electricity, the new production lines at GlobalWafers’s Texas and Missouri sites in the United States, as well as the expanded 12” new line at the Italian site, are also expected to reach 100% green electricity usage during the capacity ramp-up stage.
The CDP assessment is one of the most authoritative global evaluations of corporate environmental performance, covering areas such as climate change, water management, and forest sustainability. GlobalWafers’ recognition with an A- Leadership rating in “Water Security” and a B score in “Climate Change” highlights the company’s proactive efforts in sustainability. Moving forward, GlobalWafers will continue to deepen its environmental initiatives and collaborate with global supply chain partners to create a sustainable future together.
