Hsinchu, Taiwan, November 22, 2019 – GlobalWafers Co., Ltd. (GWC) Korean subsidiary, MEMC Korea company (MKC), completes its fab 2 construction and holds inauguration ceremony today. President of the Republic of Korea Moon Jae-in, Minister of Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Minister of Ministry of Science and ICT, Member of the National Assembly as well as local governors also join the ceremony as support of Korean government!
Being the crucial R&D and manufacturing center in Northeastern Asia, MKC has been manufacturing and selling high-quality 8” and 12” semiconductor silicon wafers for the past 30 years and has established profound long-term relationship with local tier-1 customers. Smooth construction and the rapid approval demonstrate that the project is deeply recognized by customers and government. The new Fab 2 dedicates in 12” wafer production with a monthly capacity of 176,000 wafers, calculating with the current group capacity, GWC is capable of producing over a million 12” wafers per month!
Apart from solidifying GWC’s pioneering role, MKC fab2 also serves as a strategic deployment of national importance in the global trade tension. With the automated production, MKC fab 2 will mark significant contribution in stably supplying silicon wafers to satisfy both the robust demand of current strategic partners and potential future growth driven by technology advancement. MKC fab 2 is a great milestone that strengths GWC’s position in advance 12” wafer supply chain in Korea and GWC also anchors itself well in the macro uncertainties.
