GlobalWafers Commits to 100% Renewable Energy Usage by 2050

Hsinchu, Taiwan, August 3, 2021 – GlobalWafers dedicates in supporting Taiwan net-zero transition with practical actions, pledging all subsidiaries of the group to use 100% renewable energy by 2050. Semiconductor wafer manufacturing consumes power heavily, GlobalWafers devotes to increasing the weight of green energy by implementing the profound experiences of Sino-American Silicon Products Inc., the parent Company, in building solar power plants along with signing Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) and purchasing Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs), supplemented by the climate blueprint: 20% by 2030, 35% by 2035, and 50% by 2040 usage ratio of renewable energy, gradually achieves the long-term goal of 100% renewable energy usage by 2050 to reduce the carbon emissions from electricity consumption and contributes to the sustainable environment.

Extreme weather events are increasing in frequency and intensity. Seasonal typhoons which used to bring heavy rainfall bypassed Taiwan last year, plunging Taiwan into its worst drought in 56 years. Being a high-volume user of water, GlobalWafers swiftly implements emergency preparedness and contingency planning to tackle the drought. Compared to the same period last year, in the first half of 2021 the water withdrawal quantity in GlobalWafers Taiwan sites decreases by 247 kilotons,  down by 19%, water recycle quantity increases by 62 kilotons, up by 5%. With aggressive water saving measures and stewardship, GlobalWafers successfully manages scarce water resource, prevents production disruption and secures supply chain to our worldwide customers.

Furthermore, GlobalWafers funds farmers through Treedom, a social innovation platform that helps corporations to plant trees in Italy, Africa and South America. Via participation in planting, GlobalWafers achieves reforestation, reduces global warming and directly finances farmers around the world by providing stable income as well as contributing to Eco-friendly living.
