Hsinchu, Taiwan, October 5, 2018 – GlobalWafers Co., Ltd. (GWC) today announced its revenue for September. Consolidated revenue was NT$5 billion, a decrease of 3.5% from August 2018 and an increase of 19.6% year over year. Revenue for the third quarter reached NT$15.16 billion, increases of 5.5% from the previous quarter and 26.6% year over year. Accumulated consolidated revenue as of September 2018 came to NT$43.4 billion, an increase of 28.7% from the same period last year, successfully hitting the 11th consecutive quarterly revenue growth.
GWC has determined an investment of $438 million to its subsidiary MEMC Korea Company in expanding 12-inch wafer capacity at its existing plant in Cheonan, a city 80km south of Seoul. New line will start sample shipping by the end of Q3 2019 and mass production in 2020 for advanced 12-inch polished wafers with the capacity of 150K wafers per month. This expansion is made in accordance with clients’ Long Term Agreement (LTA) and the entire new capacity will be fully provided to LTA clients.
